No Alternative To Education

It is true there is no alternative to education and it is truer
that there would never be an alternative to job-oriented education, which is missing in India.
The students are found to be taught more, remembering less, utilizing least of what they have learnt. Does a scientist or an accountant remember everything of literature, history and geography learned in school?

The system of specialization in a particular area of students' interest should be put into action at the stage when they are able to decide on what their ambitions are. Students are given to write an essay on their ambitions in their life quite early, but are not shown the right way to achieve them.

The present system of education could be replaced with the specialization system in each area of students' choice and all the other subjects could be merged into one book to give the students the general awareness on various subject matters.

5S In India

Recently we have cleaning and hygiene week plan with a Japanese management methodology 5S: Sorting (Seiri), Straightening or sorting in order/ stabilize (Seiton), Sweeping or shining or cleaning/ systematic cleaning (Seiso), Standardizing (Seiketsu), Sustaining the discipline or self-discipline (Shitsuke).Department-wise everybody has contributed and it was not only executed successfully but also maintained on daily basis.

What I am thinking if a methodology can be implemented in an organization, whether 5S can be implemented in our country. If our country is assumed as a big organization with the government as the management team, having the power to put 5S into practice and every citizen of India being educated in how to contribute and maintain it for the sake of our nation, would not be a bad idea. The complete scenario would differ incalculably, if it is put into action successfully and we would come up not only as a clean and healthy India but also an organized India.

Indians Employable Globally

Indians employed in the foreign branches of Indian companies or even the foreign companies are from top B-schools like IIMs and tech-schools like IITs. Diversity in languages, cultures and religions in Indian make them adapt to the foreign cultures quicker than others from other countries.

Undoubtedly the talented are born in India, but the country is not able to satisfy them in the matters of jobs and money. So it is commonly
said: if one wants to earn, one should look for opportunities abroad.

Employees not only  from top B-schools but also from all levels of hierarchy are attracted to the earning potentials abroad.

It is true that one would find Indians anywhere in this world. Since India still loses its talents to the foreign nations, talents of India are not employed for the advantage of India. To see that our country grows steadily, the talented should be given enough opportunities to grow themselves.

Terrorists are terrorists

Terrorists are terrorists. They are neither for India nor for Pakistan.
India would not gain anything, if the nation remains silent and does nothing to stop the terror from trespassing.
Pakistan would not gain anything if the nation remains silent and does nothing to stop the terror from making the nation their home.
India should at least take care there is no more infiltration and the development in technology is required at the Indian border to stop the terror from affecting the peace and harmony in the nation.
India is the powerful nation and it has more powerful weapon than the nuclear weapon if all attempts and plans of the terrorists to spread terror in the nation fail bitterly.
Terrorists are terrorists. They would not behave humanly. We only need to behave ourselves. Finding the best way to defend ourselves is all we should do now.
After all, being a terror-free nation should be the main agenda of India.

CREATIVITY AND PLACE

I believe creativity is closely associated with a place and vice versa. I was born at Cannanore in Kerala, spent some time in Orissa, educated in West Bengal, employed in Andhra Pradesh and now in Goa.

From Kerala, I came to Howrah in West Bengal to learn Bengali, Hindi and finally English which became the medium of expression and the language of my creativity.

At Howrah, I did picture study from comics and at Rameshwar Nagar, Bauria, Howrah, I began to write: started with anecdotes to poems and stories.

While staying at Fort Gloster Staff Quarter, my creativity developed into various forms: poems, stories, novlettes/novels, dialogues/dramas, chalk carving and more.

After some years, I shifted to Medchal near Secunderabad and Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh to find more ideas and creativity awaiting me. Also I collected passages from 'The New Testament' and 'The Gita'. A Poem also got published in Woman’s Era.

In Goa, I have stated to write letters to the Editors which has always helped me build up my confidence. Eventually, I have self published three books and sent them to book fairs. Besides, I have created a site: http://uakiran.yolasite.com

I think a lot awaits me while I would be visiting another place. Surely, ideas are unlimited in this round world.

Student Life: Syllabus, Examination & Tuition

I was never a bright student. I gave an admission test in an English medium school in West Bengal. My parents and I were called for an interview. The principal said somewhat like this: ‘Mathematics is okay but his English is poor.’

I was never a bright student, I repeat, since I could hardly learn anything by heart. Even for the I.C.S.E and I.S.C examinations, I read the text books and wrote mostly in my own words. With some difficulty and by reading and writing several times, I was successful in remembering some chosen definitions. Several times, I did not get any rank. Some students did suggest taking tuitions from the subject teachers. As I was not in favour of private coaching by the school teachers, I preferred external teachers.

Learning in class seven, I used to go to my friend’s house where a teacher would teach us almost all the subjects. Everything was excellent except for his technique of teaching English. He made us comprehend Bengali grammar and do translations from Bengali and Hindi (for me) to English almost daily before he started English, which I considered (and consider even now) was pointless and wastage of time. We then moved to some other place, which made it difficult for me to go to my friend’s house, so he came to our house and stopped coming before the final examination result. I do not know what he had in his mind, but I was promoted to the next class with a rank. I never got anybody to teach me English then, and to teach me Science and Mathematics, there was one who showed me the ways to improve my Mathematics and score good marks in Science.

A teacher would pick up my pen or something to explicate a transaction in Accountancy. His explanation was always extensive and would make a composition which I never liked especially when I was concerned about the syllabus for my examination. My friend who joined his tuition class after me was the first to quit, followed by me. I got another Accountancy teacher who did not get enough time to understand me.

My school did give me the best grammar book and dictionary which are still helping me to develop my English.

Knowledge of English

Nowadays, a working knowledge of English is a must. Speaking it correctly and fluently is considered as the prized asset. Therefore introduction of the language at the early stage would give enough time to students to master it even they communicate widely in mother tongue.

Transformation of a sentence is easier to learn than its translation which needs familiarity with two languages and more practice. Additionally, the students must possess the habit of thinking in English and not in their mother tongue.

Preventing Drug Abuse

Drug abuse is an unyielding disease eating into our society for long time now. Even though scientists and science together are inventing vaccines and medicines to cure the dangerous diseases, Cocaine, Heroin and their corresponding items which have taken a more menacing appearance than cigarettes, are sucking the blood of youth.
Furthermore it has become one of the most lucrative business to play with the emotion of young generation and destroy their future since one who is depressed or mentally weak to face the world or keeps bad company or for some other reasons gets addicted to drug and can cross any limits to acquire a pinch of it which may come in exchange of the most valued thing in one’s life.
